Correct construction scheme of foam glass

Date:2026-05-07Source:Admin

The density of foam glass is slightly higher than that of other materials. During production, a large amount of recycled materials are mixed or powdered seriously, which makes the insulation board and the main wall form "false adhesion" or its own "powder to pieces", resulting in local hollowing and falling off. Therefore, the correct construction scheme is very important. Because the insulation board itself has too much stress, coupled with unreasonable pasting methods or expansion and contraction and other factors, the formation of negative wind pressure causes local hollowing or damage to the insulation board. Please see the following introduction:

1. Structural factors of foam glass base

(1) Uneven settlement and damage. Near the expansion joints of longer and larger building structures, it is easy to cause hollowing or partial detachment of the insulation layer.

(2) Deformation of frame structure masonry. The exterior wall of the frame structure is prone to insulation layer damage caused by masonry deformation at the joints between concrete beams, columns, and masonry.

(3) Scaffold openings and other areas are not fully constructed, resulting in the insulation layer being partially unstable and damaged.

(4) The external wall decorative components are not firmly fixed or displaced, forming a push-pull effect, resulting in local hollowing and cracking of the insulation layer, and long-term water leakage, leading to hollowing or partial detachment.

2. Factors of insulation structure layer

(1) Insulation board insulation layer. Leveling mortar and main wall hollowing, especially prolonged water seepage, can easily lead to sustained hollowing and expansion, resulting in hollowing or local damage to the insulation layer; Excessive surface load on the insulation board can easily cause the insulation layer to peel off directly, resulting in detachment; Unreasonable measures taken to resist negative wind pressure can easily lead to certain insulation panels being damaged by wind pressure and becoming hollow or falling off; Due to the formation of significant stress structures with surrounding structures, the architectural decoration and modeling structure may experience cracks, hollowing, long-term water seepage, frost heave, etc., leading to hollowing or detachment over time.

(2) Slurry material insulation layer. Improper treatment of the wall interface, the wall should be treated with interface mortar before applying mortar insulation material. Otherwise, it is easy to cause direct hollowing of the insulation layer or failure of the interface treatment material, resulting in hollowing of the interface layer and the main wall, and subsequently forming hollowing of the insulation layer; If the insulation layer is not effectively restrained and the load is damaged, and the surface load of the insulation layer is relatively large, the insulation layer should be effectively restrained to disperse the load.

3. Performance factors of insulation materials

(1) Insulation board:

(2) The surface of the insulation board is smooth, with poor adhesion and low bonding strength with the bonding mortar. The detachment surface appears on the interface between the insulation board and the bonding mortar layer, as well as with the plastering mortar layer. A typical example is the XPS board, as shown in the video above. The external insulation material used in this building is this XPS board with poor surface adhesion.

(3) Insulation slurry: If the quality of the insulation material is not qualified, it is prone to poor adhesion or long-term failure, resulting in hollowing; The storage time of rubber powder material is too long or it becomes damp and initially sets, causing it to fail, resulting in a decrease in adhesive strength during use.

4. Supporting product factors

(1) Supporting products such as bonding adhesive for insulation boards: The bonding adhesive and anchor bolts directly affect the bonding strength of the insulation layer and are also the main cause of quality problems in current external insulation engineering. The types of adhesive paste are mixed and cannot meet the reliability requirements for bonding insulation boards; Unreasonable grading of the adhesive results in a decrease in overall performance; Improper selection of anchor bolts may result in potential hollowing, displacement, or detachment.

(2) Slurry insulation material matching products: When the slurry insulation layer is tiled or combined with insulation boards, improper selection of steel mesh and main wall connection products can result in ineffective connections. According to different walls, specialized nylon steel nails and other matching products with reliable connection effects should be used.

5. Construction factors

(1) Factors affecting the construction of slurry insulation layer: Improper treatment of the base wall, such as direct application of clay brick walls without prior wetting with water, or failure to clean surface oil stains and other attachments, resulting in excessive application area or insufficient compaction at one time, leading to local hollowing; The unreasonable grading of the slurry insulation material on site affects the bonding strength, resulting in potential defects such as local hollowing or damage during construction; Incorrect application method can easily cause local hollowing; Violation of operating procedures during construction resulted in local hollowing.

(2) Construction factors of bonding insulation board: When using point bonding method, if the bonding area is less than 30% and there is no anchor fixation, it may cause potential hollowing and loosening hazards; When using the strip bonding method, the size of the adhesive groove is too small and it may become stuck. When fully bonded or the insulation board joints are stuck with adhesive, it may cause poor drainage and exhaust, as well as swelling and shrinkage stress, resulting in internal pressure peeling hollows; When using the nail bonding method, if the adhesive slurry is too thin and the anchor is installed immediately after bonding, the pressure is too high, causing the insulation board to "deform and open the adhesive", resulting in false bonding and ineffective connection between the anchor and the wall, which may lead to potential damage; Human factors influence: irresponsible use of "flower sticking" phenomenon during construction, where certain boards are not carefully glued; Forced construction without protective measures in low temperature or rainy or snowy weather can cause the bonding layer to be soaked or frozen, thereby changing its performance and posing a hidden danger.

6. Other factors affecting the construction of foam glass

(1) After the construction of the insulation layer, the installation of other types of work such as doors, windows, air conditioning, and downspouts in the later stage caused artificial damage.

(2) The area that should be sealed with sealant is not sealed, and the insulation layer has been soaked and frozen for a long time.

(3) Other human impacts during decoration construction.

The above factors will directly or indirectly cause damage to the adhesive insulation layer and the slurry insulation layer. Although it may not cause serious damage in the short term, for projects with a lifespan of several decades, it is

In the field of external insulation engineering, the first technical problem that troubles people is undoubtedly the detachment of external insulation. As for the fire caused by insulation materials, it is mostly due to improper on-site management and coordination, which led to the emergence of a fuse.

Today, we will summarize and refine the correct construction scheme of foam glass panel to prevent a series of reasons for the fall off of the external insulation system caused by incorrect construction. We hope that friends in the insulation industry will pay attention to and improve the energy-saving quality of wall engineering together.
